Timbers Kiawah is honored to once again participate in the Backpack Buddies Chili Cookoff at Bohicket Marina. The annual chili cook-off benefits the Backpack Buddies program, run by the Kiawah Women’s Foundation and Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island. In its fifth year of the fundraiser, the showdown will take place on Saturday, March 16 from 1-4pm. Timbers Kiawah will participate for the second year in a row, showcasing its best chili, this time with the help of Chef Teddy Folkman.

Last year over 30 teams participated in the cook-off and 1,305 spectators purchased spoons to dig into the competition. Votes are cast with donation dollars and awards are given to “The People’s Choice,” the chili team that raises the most donations and “The Judge’s Choice,“ the chili team with the best tasting chili. Not only a culinary challenge, the event is a challenge to the businesses and residences of both Kiawah and Seabrook islands to come together to raise money for a great cause.

The Backpack Buddies program supplies food to over 400 children, who receive weekly packs of healthy food discreetly slipped into their backpacks on Fridays to help supplement them at home over the weekend and on holidays when they are not receiving school meals. At the end of the school year, a “large bag” program provides each student with food to start the summer vacation. Their funding is 100% donations and grants, making this annual event a major fundraiser for the program. Timbers Kiawah is proud to be a partner and supporter of the Backpack Buddies program.
