Old Fashioned

When it comes to classic cocktails, there’s something timeless and comforting about an Old Fashioned. However, at Timbers Kiawah, Chef Teddy has taken this old-time favorite and given it a delicious twist that’s become an Owner favorite.

The secret behind Chef Teddy’s Old Fashioned is the unique flavor derived from the double-char aging process of Bib & Tucker Bourbon, which imparts a delightful smokiness and a smooth finish. To make it even more distinctive, Chef Teddy adds black walnut bitters and smokes the cocktail with maple bourbon chips. Intrigued? Let’s dive into the recipe and learn how to create this remarkable cocktail.

Ingredients

2.5 Ounces Bib & Tucker Double Char Bourbon

0.25 Ounces Luxardo

0.5 Ounce Demerara syrup

2-3 Dashes Angostura Bitters

2-3 Dashes Black Walnut Bitters

Instructions

Prepare Your Mixing Glass

Begin by putting some ice into a mixing glass. The ice will chill the ingredients and initiate the melting process, which is crucial for achieving the perfect Old Fashioned texture.

Add the Bourbon

Pour in 2.5 ounces of Bib & Tucker Double Char Bourbon. This carefully aged bourbon will be the foundation of your unique cocktail, offering a rich smokiness that sets it apart.

Introduce Luxardo

Add 0.25 ounces of Luxardo, a maraschino liqueur that will bring a subtle sweetness and complexity to your Old Fashioned.

Sweeten It with Demerara

Include 0.5 ounces of Demerara syrup to balance the flavors and add a hint of caramel-like sweetness to your cocktail.

Dash of Bitters

Enhance the complexity of your Old Fashioned by adding 2-3 dashes of Angostura Bitters and 2-3 dashes of Black Walnut Bitters. These aromatic ingredients will create a harmonious blend of flavors.

Stir Well

Stir the mixture in the mixing glass for about 10 to 15 seconds. This not only chills the cocktail but also allows the ice to melt slightly, further enhancing the drink’s balance and texture.

Strain into a Rocks Glass

Strain your cocktail into a rocks glass that contains a large ice cube. The oversized ice cube helps maintain the drink’s temperature and dilution.

Garnish with Flair

To elevate your Old Fashioned’s visual appeal and flavor, add two maraschino cherries and a twist of orange peel. These garnishes contribute fruity and citrusy notes to the mix.

The Smoky Finish

The final touch is what makes Chef Teddy’s Old Fashioned truly unique. Cover your rocks glass with a lid and smoke the cocktail for about 20 to 30 seconds, using smoked maple bourbon chips. This adds an exciting smoky dimension to your drink.

Presentation Matters

Remove the lid and serve your beautifully smoky Old Fashioned with a charred cinnamon stick as a garnish. This not only adds a wonderful aroma but also hints at the delightful smokiness that awaits inside the glass.

Relax & Enjoy

Chef Teddy’s Old Fashioned is a testament to the creative spirit that can transform a classic cocktail into a memorable, smoky delight.
