Freshfields Village is a fun, family-friendly option for dining on Kiawah. A five minute bike ride from Timbers Kiawah, it’s a lively destination with a great variety of restaurants, coffee shops, a grocery store and shopping. Here are our six favorite restaurants.

48 Wine Bar

A carefully selected wine list usually doesn’t imply a long one, but at 48 wine bar, that’s exactly what you can expect, 48 wines hand picked by the wine bar’s expert sommelier team. The most exciting part is that with 48’s “serve yourself” wine-tap system you can try as many wines as you’d like, without buying an entire glass. And, if you aren’t a wine drinker, 48 also features a beer list of… you guessed it, 48 craft brews sourced from the South! Pair your beer or wine with one of the flatbreads or apps, or one of their homemade desserts.

Hege’s

Hege’s is a french bistro with a healthy helping of southern influence and hospitality. The menu features classic mainstays offered yearlong, as well as seasonal specialties. Seafood is a staple and you will find dishes like fried oysters, lobster ravioli, and steamed mussels. Hege’s is a great spot for a date night or special occasion, as your little ones may not have the palate for Hege’s, after all, escargot is on the menu.

La Tela Pizzeria

If you’re craving Italian, La Tela is your spot. A family-friendly restaurant, their specialty is pizza, but the menu also features a variety of pasta dishes and a handful of grinders. Pair your pizza with a carefully selected wine from their international list or stick to the classic pizza and beer combo with a craft brew.

Cantina 76

Cantina 76 marries the south of the border with South Carolina by serving tacos with a twist—bbq brisket, buffalo chicken and smoked pork to name a few. The kids will love this spot, it’s lively, it’s fun to share crazy tacos, and mom and dad will enjoy the long list of margaritas.

The Station

Sometimes, keeping it simple is the way to go, and if you’re looking for a solid lunch in Freshfields village to break up the day, the Station Deli is a prime choice. The fried buttermilk chicken sandwich is Instagram worthy, but if you are looking for something lighter The Station makes any type of sandwich to go, perfect if you are bike riding around Freshfields and Kiawah.

Java Java

The name suggests coffee, but Java Java serves much more than the morning cup of joe. Great for both breakfast and lunch, Java Java has a wide variety of breakfast sandwiches, ranging from classic bacon egg and cheese to avocado bagel. Java Java is also the best place near Kiawah to pick up fresh squeezed juice and fruit smoothies.
