We recently caught up with Timbers Kiawah Owners Jeff and Beth Kowalczik. Read on to learn about their experiences as Timbers Kiawah Owners.

Tell us about your family and where you are from.

We currently live in Fort Mill, SC and have 2 girls, Addie (11) and Kenzie (9) and a Havanese puppy named Palmer.

What first drew you to Kiawah?

During the summer of 2018, we took a family vacation with some friends and stayed on Seabrook Island. During that trip, we spent time exploring Kiawah Island and instantly fell in love. Our oldest has always had an interest in dolphins and was hooked when she found out you could see them often swimming off the coast or strand feeding in the river.

What do you think makes it so special?

The people. Between the amazing staff and the other families that we have met over the past 2 years, they all feel like family to us now.

How did you first hear about Timbers Kiawah?

We first heard about Timbers Kiawah through a promotional advertisement that we stumbled upon.

Why did you decide to purchase at Timbers Kiawah?

Timbers Kiawah was the right fit for our family.  We didn’t want to purchase something that we were going to have to upkeep.  We also loved the fact that we had access to several other properties around the world that we could use if we wanted to.

Tell us about the first time you came to your new home at Timbers Kiawah.

Our first trip was in February of 2019. We had seen the promotional advertisement and thought we would schedule a visit to see if Timbers Kiawah would fit our needs. We instantly fell in love. In fact, our youngest didn’t want to leave. She stood out on the balcony crying when it was time to leave. She had so much fun, she didn’t want to go. We knew after that trip, we had to make Timbers Kiawah a place we could call home!

What’s the first thing you do when you arrive?

The first thing we do when we arrive is run upstairs to see our “Timbers Family”. We love to get big hugs and hear how they are doing. We are always so excited to see the staff when we get here, as they have become family to us over the past 2 years.

What are your kids’ favorite things to do on Kiawah?

We love to go on bike rides on the beach, especially when it is low tide and we get to see the dolphins strand feed in the river.  We also like to follow the turtle patrol during the summer. It has been fascinating learning about them over the past 2 years. Our first summer at Timbers, we came upon a turtle nest that was hatching and got to see the baby turtles make their way to the ocean. Last summer, we took a walk at night and came upon a momma turtle digging a hole to lay her nest.

When is your favorite time of the year to be in Kiawah and why?

Really any time of year is our favorite to be at Timbers Kiawah!  We love it each time we are there. But if we had to pick, we would say that the 4th of July is our favorite time to be at Timbers Kiawah. The week of the 4th of the July was the first week that we experienced as owners. That first summer, we met some amazing families. Our kids had a blast playing in the pool and the beach. They loved the 3:00 snack time each afternoon and all the games that the staff had planned. We also got to watch fireworks from the beach. Since that first year, we have tried to get that week each year, so we can enjoy the festivities.  Each year, some of the same families are there with us. It has become like a family reunion week each year.

What’s your favorite thing to order at the Beach Club restaurant?

An Old Fashioned for the adults and Orange Milkshakes and cookies for the kids!

Fill in the blank.

FAMILY is the one word that best describes Timbers Kiawah.

I laugh every time I think about THE HOT WING EATING CHALLENGE at Timbers Kiawah.
